King Abdullah - Jordan Was Better Off Without Peace With Israel

by Chris Schang

It appears from a survey of the political landscape in the Middle East that the usual sabre-rattling in the region has been kicked up a notch. We all are very aware of the political and anti-semitic rantings of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and most recently from Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan. But an interesting article came out today that appears to be showing that Jordan's King Abdullah is now joining the growing chorus of sabre-rattling aimed at Israel. Jordan is one of two Arab countries with a "peace" agreement with Israel, the other being Egypt. King Abdullah was reported to have declared that Jordan was better off without peace with Israel. The Israel National News website reports:

King Abdullah of Jordan has joined the Arab world's saber-rattling against Israel and warned that the status of Jerusalem could blow up into another war. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he also stated that Jordan was better off economically before it made peace with Israel in 1994.

Taking advantaged of the American-led diplomatic offensive against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Obama's negative attitude towards Israel, he said, "I think the overlap that happened between me and Prime Minister Netanyahu 10 or 11 years ago was not very pleasant. It was actually the three most unpleasant months in the relationship between Jordan and Israel...Our relationship with Israel is at an all-bottom low. It hasn't been as bad as it is today and as tense as it is today."

As we can see King Abdullah is trying to cash in on the recent political spat between Israel and the United States. Jordan's King Abdullah is like many other Islamists and wants to get the most bang out of his buck as the tension increases between Israel and the United States. Jordan figures that it will be very important in any final two state solution as it will be the country with the closest proximity to any new Palestinian state. The Jordanians also currently help "administer" the Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock through the Islamic Waqf that was set up shortly after Israel captured the eastern portion of Jerusalem in 1967's six day war.

In the INN article, it appears that King Abdullah tried to repeat several times the threat that if a Palestinian state was not setup west of the Jordanian river and the status of Jerusalem resolved that this would ignite the Islamic tension and frustration in the region. King Abdullah went on to further state:

In the interview, he warned three times that the lack of a new Palestinian Authority state west of the Jordan and failure to settle the status of Jerusalem according to Arab demands could ignite Muslim frustration and anger.

The king also maintained that "Jerusalem specifically engages Jordan because we are the custodians of the Muslim and Christian holy places and this is a flashpoint that goes beyond Jordanian-Israeli relations." Neither King Abdullah nor the interviewer noted that Jordan denied Jews and Christians access to holy sites when it illegally occupied most of Jerusalem, including the Old City, Temple Mount and Western Wall, between 1949 and 1967. This was a result of its successful invasion of the beleaguered young state of Israel. Jerusalem was never recognized by any other nation as belonging to Jordan.

"The political trust is gone," he said. "There is no real economic relationship between Jordan and Israel. So economically we were better off in trade and in movement before my father signed the peace treaty."

While Abdullah talks about how bad things have gotten politically with Israel, it was also noted that Jordan has started to take a closer leaning towards Syria, who as we know is closely aligned with the future Gog and Magog invaders of Ezekiel 38-39. While the Islamic invaders of Ezekiel 38-39 are Russian led moslem countries, it is noteworthy that the primary participants of the coming Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17 conflicts are Arab. This would appear to include all the Arab countries from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and of course the various terrorist factions on the border with Israel. It would appear to me that this rhetoric being spouted by Jordan's King Abdullah could potentially be a further indication and evidence that a Psalm 83 and perhaps Isaiah 17 fulfillment are not far off on the prophetic horizon.

King Abdullah was further quoted in reference to the increasing ties between Jordan and Syria. These comments are coming despite the fact that Jordan basically has the friendliest Islamic ties with Israel of any Middle Eastern country. King Abdullah was also reported to have said:

Although Jordan is considered to have the warmest relations with Israel, King Abdullah's comment reflect a swing towards warm relations with Syria. "We're sort of the power brigade... us and other countries, trying to see where issues of contention between Israelis and Palestinians and make the atmosphere more amiable," he said. "Jordan's relationship with Syria is better than it has been in a long time; probably the best it's ever been," he told the Journal. "So the engagement now between the Syrian and Jordanian government on economic cooperation are at an all-time high."

During the course of the interview King Abdullah turned once again to the demographic card and noted that within eight or ten years that fifty percent of Israel would be Arab. While this demographic card has been played numerous times during negotiations there is alot of controversy over this claim and there is some evidence that Islamic births are actually on the downward spiral while Jewish births are on the upswing. Abdullah rejected any suggestions that Jordan absorb the Palestinians, this is ironic in that Jordan is one of the primary true origins of the Palestinian people. The truth is Abdullah is not interested in absorbing the Palestinians and having them become troublemakers and creating chaos in his kingdom, nor is he interested in hosting Hamas and other terrorist groups who are use to running wild in Gaza and the West Bank. King Abdullah is only interested in forcing Israel into making concessions for the overall Islamic goal of the eventual destruction of the Jewish state.

It is my opinion that these unusual comments coming from Jordan's King Abdullah could be a hint that we are moving closer and closer to the Psalm 83 scenario and perhaps even to the fulfillment of Isaiah 17 as Syria has made recent announcements that they would not sit still in the next conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. These comments and threats have the potential to bring forth the fulfillments of prophecies that will lead us directly towards the coming Tribulation period and the revealing of the future Antichrist. But before the Tribulation and the Antichrist will appear, the rapture of the church will usher believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to Heaven before God's wrath is poured out during the Tribulation period on unbelieving Israel and unrepentant sinners. With all the hoopla and threats being thrown around in the Middle East these days, I recommend that you all keep looking up, as our redemption draws nigh!!

God bless.
