4.5 Stars

Kaye pens a sensual contemporary romance with "Her Maine Man." Set on a rural island in Maine, this is one romance that will leave the reader breathless as they turn the page.

The novel opens with Jon learning that his mother would go to Maine once a year to a remote island to meet her lover. His mother has recently passed away and his sister, Sarah, asks him to go to Maine to break the news to his mother's lover. It's convenient because Jon has business on nearby Bain Island with the mayor.

Victor Powell, the mayor of Bain Island asks his daughter, Maddie, to go to Rose Island and meet his lover. He can't go because he's taking care of his ex-wife who is in a wheelchair. Maddie reluctantly agrees.

Jon and Maddie meet on the ferry ride over. They get to the cottage, but they don't put two and two together as to why they are there. Instead, a severe storm traps them in the cottage and the two share personal secrets. Jon and Maddie try to leave the cottage, but the storm forces them back to the shelter. Unable to contain their combustible sparks any longer, they share a night of passion. The next morning they go their separate ways after promising to meet up in a year.

Jon goes to Bain Island and meets Victor. He also meets Maddie and realizes she's a "Bain." Jon stays the week to work and become embroiled in a passionate affair with Maddie. Will the secrets that Jon and Maddie's families keep from them drive the couple apart, or will love prevail? Only time will tell.

Kaye's writing is easy to read and she immediately engages the reader with secrets kept both by Jon and Maddie's family. Her dialogue is realistic and the plot is tight.

Kaye's descriptions are pitch perfect. She uses the five senses as well as similes to paint a vivid Maine backdrop.

Her characters are wonderfully complex. This is a story with substance. Jon is haunted by his alcoholic father and wants something more from his life. Maddie is unable to make an emotional connection with her mother. Surprisingly, both Jon and Maddie find that emotional connection with each other.

"Her Maine Man" is a sophisticated romance novel. Kaye's love scenes between Jon and Maddie are hot and passionate, capturing an intense bond between the characters. "Her Maine Man" is a romance I couldn't put down.

Pete Rose Aqua Velva Commercial

Great commercial from 1977. Notice the Namath- like leer at the female 'working press'
