Taking Care Of Autographed Books

by Victor Epand

Collectors of autographed books often have a couple really favorite autographed books within there collections that they truly enjoy displaying for others to see, but yet they are still constantly worrying about protecting them.

One way that collectors or individuals can protect and preserve their autographed books is by simply displaying them on a stand that has a clear plastic film for covering up the pages. When a collector has autographed books within their collection that they have stood in front of the author themselves and have had the author personally inscribed their wishes and thoughts to them, then these books are sure to mean more to them.

Some collectors have collected within their collection over time earlier edition books, which contain inscriptions from the author to others. These earlier edition books could include first edition books and perhaps even some rare books as well. When purchasing these types of autographed books on-line be especially careful due to there being so many fakes out there and the number of individuals who thrive on making money off of others carelessness. To prevent getting taking advantage of be sure to get several photographs and inspect the condition of the autographed book. Another way is to ask is the seller has a money back guaranteed, because this will ensure is your autographed book to an original.

Collectors known that prevention is the best step to keeping their collection of autographed books from becoming damaged. If they get stored in a dry, cool location, then their collection can avoid becoming damaged with that musty, smelly odor that stored books often become associated with. Another way to protect autographed books is by placing dust jackets over their covers, which will help keep moisture away from the book itself.

Collectors should always be careful when storing their collection of autographed books and be especially careful not to store them in locations that might become moist and hot. A collection of autographed books should be dusted with a duster every few weeks to keep dust and any type of debris from building up. The front spines of the autographed books within your collection should also be dusted as well, because large spots of dust on the spine can lead to much darker spots if the covers get exposed to any kind of sun light or other types of elements.

Collectors should also regularly check their collection of autographed books for any signs of droppings from mice or other pests that could possibly damage their collection. If droppings from mice are located around the collection, then a couple of mouse traps need to be placed around the storage area where the collection is kept. Collectors known that mice and certain types of bugs will eat books, which can destroy any collection of books. The shelves where the collection of autographed books are stored should be vacuumed along and around the base of the books to remove any of these droppings, dust, and debris, then they should be dusts at least once a week.
