The Collecting Of Autographed Books

Individuals have enjoyed adding autographed books to their collections for years. In fact, this ancient hobby of collecting autographed books began back in the sixteenth century, but it was not until the middle of the eighteenth century that this hobby truly began to blossom worldwide.
Over the years the number of collectors in the hobby of collecting autographed books has continued to grow. During the past several years collectors have begun being a little more discriminatory in the autographed books that they have been adding to their collections by ensuring that they are of the highest quality available in terms of rarity and popularity. The signatures of the author is highly important, but any historical references made to the party the receiving the autographed book makes the autographed books much more valuable. For instance, if the author dedicates the book to G. Bush instead of George Bush, then the book with the full name will be of more value. Also, if the author has included a special note to the receiver then the value of the autographed book will be sure to increase.
Any autographed book that has been inscribed to some other individual or the collector themselves will be definitely worth adding to any collection no matter who the author of the book was. Locating older autographed books that have been inscribed can be one of the most exciting experiences for the collector, because they are allowed at this point to capture a glimpse of what the author was thinking at that particular time in their life.
During the early part of the nineteenth century, avid readers began catching onto the idea of getting their favorite authors to sign their books when ever they were able to catch them at a book signing appearance. The love and romance of collecting autographed books soon became a full time profession for many individuals, who were able to turn it into a reasonable living as well with the assistance of several on-line auction sites. Of course, like with any new fad there will be some type of opposition and these individuals were attacked by book stores whose business actually began suffering due to the amount of business that was being completely on-line.
Today there are literally thousands of collectors of autographed books and more every day that are learning about the hobby so that they can soon begin investing in their own collection of autographed books. Many of the autographed books within most collections seem to continue to go up in price and value especially since these autographed books are one of a kinds.
When purchasing autographed books on-line collectors and individuals need to be careful of those individuals who are offering the autographed books but are reluctant to show the autograph within the pages of the book. One other thing to watch out is individuals that are selling autographed books on-line, but do not give any type of physical address or a valid telephone number. Unfortunately, there are still those individuals out there who would and do enjoy making that dishonest dollar.
